It is been a tough winter on the east coast of the U.S., but today when I published this post the temperature went up to 42 which is probably the highest it has been in a month.

I just heard on the news that Lake Erie will be totally frozen over by the end of this week if not sooner. I live just off Lake Huron and it is 87% frozen and they expect it to follow suit. Record breaking February – won’t Spring be doubly welcome this year.

I love your grape belt photo, Ken! As for the rigours of winter you’ve shown, I’m relieved to say that I can’t relate these days. I say this humbly, having lived through a few harsh winters long ago. I know winter can be “wonderful in its awfulness”; still, I’m thankful to be in Victoria, B.C. (Not a speck of snow all winter.) Soon you’ll be enjoying spring too.

Wow! Made me shiver just looking at those pictures I remember many a winter in Wisconsin where Surgeon Bay froze completely over…a lot like those pictures of Lake Erie. Seeing the ice fishing huts and once in a while, ice sailing! Spring will come Ken…take heart:)

Hi Ken, I think my first comment went into spam so here goes again. I remember those days of winter when I used enjoy snow days and sledding. They were fun at first but then not so fun after awhile. Now, I sure wish some of that moisture would come west.

I lived on one of the Great Lakes when I was young – Lake Superior, in Duluth. I am so glad to live in AZ now where we occasionally get a little snow – none so far this year. Snow is beautiful but it gets old fast.

I’ve never been to Buffalo, but I was born near Lake George so I have done the whole Upstate New York thing. I love all your pictures. I really do love looking at snow. It is another thing walking through it on a daily basis. I haven’t seen snow in the last decade, but your pictures make me think I would like to visit snow some day soon (Just for a few days; then back to the sunshine for me!)

Love these photos , but I confess I’m glad I’m not in the middle of it all. I’ve been very covetous of my mild California weather over the past couple of weeks, though tales of igloo bars in Boston were pretty intriguing.

Cold…bleak…desolate…alien…
Without the “Lake Erie Concord Grape Belt” sign and the last three photos I would have thought I was looking at somewhere north of the Arctic Circle, Alaska maybe? A nice place to visit perhaps but I wouldn’t want to live there.

Ken, all my photos would have looked like “How you drive in Buffalo”. I would have never got out of the heated car. It’s a heat wave in Boston, 22 degrees. It looks like the worst is over and we should see green grass by July. Did the Sabres win?

No the Sabres never win. But what was impressive is that the arena was still packed to see a terrible team in the middle of a snow storm.

Ken, that looks so ridiculously cold I don’t even want to look at all the pictures. I couldn’t resist though and now I feel a chill running up my spine. I think it is forgotten memories of winters in Chicago coming back to haunt me.

Ken, Please don’t ever apply for a job at the Buffalo City of Commerce. : ) I have a dear friend who is a Professor at the University of Buffalo, and he tells me, “Winter’s aren’t too bad in Buffalo”! I’m forwarding this link…’cause I think he is fibbin’.

We haven’t had much snow this year so I really enjoyed looking at these pictures. Snow makes everything look beautiful. Not sure if I would like to be driving on some of those icy roads.
