Love the photos – I really like the one little gorilla sitting off by himself eating whatever it is he’s eating (almost like a kid with his hand in the cookie jar).

  6. Great photos. I am fascinated with gorillas. They seem so docile, but at a moments notice their natural strength and verbosity can erupt. Thanks for sharing this with us.

I lived in NYC for years and never made my way to the Bronx Zoo. Love the pictures of the little gorilla family. I always remember that story of the little boy who fell in the gorilla pit at the zoo and one of the gorillas held him and protected him (at least I think it was gorillas – definitely some type of ape.) Anyway, that made for a great story.

Great the photos Ken! I love zoos and when I worked in travel I was fortunate enough to be able to treat myself to visits to many of the larger zoos and natural habits. The National Zoo is one of my favorites and there is a wildlife sanctuary in Australia that is simply amazing. I am getting itchy feet, time for a trip! 🙂

I feel a general kinship with animals and love going to the zoo. My favorite zoo animals are the more exotic ones (e.g., big cats, bears, reptiles) but I can see why people are drawn to apes and monkeys due to their human-like qualities. In looking at your gorilla photos I wonder, “Are we really that much more ‘evolved’ than they are?” Maybe they don’t read Shakespeare or listen to Beethoven but they haven’t started any world wars either the last time I checked. (OK, I am being rhetorical here but you get my point.)
