Seventy-two miles of the Appalachian Trail are in New Jersey. Going North to South, the AT enters New Jersey from New York State at Greenwood Lake. It goes across Sussex and Warren Counties to the Delaware Water Gap. Along the way it goes through Wawayanda State Park, High Point State Park, the Kittatinny Mountains and Stoke State Forest.
These photos are from the section of the Appalachian Trail that starts In Highland Lakes just south of the New York State border. From there it goes through Wawayanda State Park, over Wawayanda Mountain and across the Pochuck boardwalk to the Pochuck Mountain in Vernon Township.

I’ve done a few days hikes on small sections of the AT. I would really love to do a long hike on it, maybe even the entire thing one of these days. Have you seen the previews for A Walk in the Woods starring Nick Nolte and Robert Redford? I really loved Bill Bryson’s book, but it looks like its been turned into a farcical buddy movie.

I enjoyed the book also but haven’t heard much good about the movie. I’ll probably go anyway. Now that my expectations have been lowered it might not seem too bad.

JUst excellent. Really shows the best of New Jersey! The marsh boardwalk photo was my favorite, but know all of them are excellent. Thank you for sharing them.
