This gate, which leads to the Imperial Palace, dates back to 1624, reconstructed in 1663, and repaired after an earthquake in 1923.. It was the site of the 1860 assassation of Japanese Chief Minister Taioro Ii Naosuke by a group of samurai.

    Thanks for an amazing tour of Tokyo and for including caption information on the histories, especially the gate, care garden and park. What a surprise to see a giant “cousin” of Chef Boyardee in that shopping district.
