Everyone was up in our arms when that exhibit came to our town. Claiming that it isn’t what Banksy would want. But who really knows? We went and thought it was amazing!
It is a touring exhibition based on works from a private collection. I couldn’t find any info on who is behind it, but the following statement was attributed to Banksy ““Banksy has NOTHING to do with any of the current or recent exhibitions and they are nothing like a genuine Banksy show. They might be crap so please don’t come to us for a refund.”
I absolutely LOVE Banksy! LOVE HIM. I’d be scared to go to an exhibition tho, given all the controversy around sale and exhibition of his works. Alot of selling and displaying going on with out his consent, which is the execution of what he stands against in a way? And – I understand the fascination. He’s my favorite after Basquiat.
In his April 16, 2010, review of the Bansky film “Exit Through the Gift Shop,” Los Angeles Times critic Kenneth Turan called it “subversive, provocative and unexpected” and “a doc you don’t want to miss.” Turan noted that the film “delights in taking you by surprise, starting quietly but ending up in a hall of mirrors as unsettling as anything Lewis Carrol’s Alice ever experienced.”

There is all this anti-capitalist messaging in Banksy’s art and then you walk out into a big gift shop. Probably not what Banksy would have planned.

Interesting collection. If this exhibit wasn’t authorized, curated or endorsed by Banksy, who did put it on?

Well Banksy may not be happy about it, but I’d love to see it. Love the quotes you put in too. Maggie
